Welcome to Communities In Schools

of Tacoma

This beautiful, multi-colored mountain is comprised of 1,865 pairs of socks received by CIS through the

"PUT A SOCK IN IT" collection.

The event was sponsored by The Tacoma Weekly and joined by local firefighters, businesses and schools. CIS will coordinate the distribution of the socks in Tacoma Public Schools. Sincere thanks to all who so generously donated!

Please don't forget to vote on February 12th, 2013!

Why We Do What We Do: We work to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. One of the primary focuses of our organization is to foster academic success in order to combat the epidemic of students dropping out. We take a proactive approach to keeping students in school. This approach is not only the most effective, but also economically efficient.

Program Goals:

  • Improve family involvement with the school and community
  • Increase healthy lifestyle behavior choices
  • Increase volunteer mentors
  • Increase student academic achievement
  • Increase the number of one-on-one relationships between students and caring adults
  • Increase relationships between the schools and our valued business partners

2011/2012 celebrations and accomplishments include:

  • We served over 6,000 students through a variety of services
  • 95% of the students in our reading program increased their scores
  • 106 students graduated who otherwise would have dropped out
